Another hybrid eggplant variety, Hansel has a thin shape and purple color. This variety takes about 65 days to mature, but the fruit can be picked when they become two inches long. The soil should be kept moist and the plant needs full sun to grow. Fertilizer should be added when planting and then when the plant starts to bloom. The fruit, which is nearly seedless, can get to be six to eight inches long but shouldn’t get any larger. Because of the size of the fruit, these eggplants should be tied to a stake or trellis to prevent the plant from sagging.
Dark purple, slender, 6-8” fruits on spineless plant. Excellent sautéed, pickled or fresh.
Harvest: 65 Days pick young. Exposure: Full sun. Likes hot days & warm night. Water Needs: Keep evenly moist. Fertilizer: Fertilize when planting and when plants begin to bloom.
