Chives, including garlic, can be grown in nearly all zones, particularly in zones 3 through 10. Garlic can even survive in zone 2. But, regardless of which variety of chives you add to your garden, all need spring or fall planting with full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Most plants can get to be 12 inches tall and transplants should be added every eight to 12 inches.
