Farmer Phil's Long Island Brussel Sprout

Long Island Brussels Sprout

All Brussels sprouts grow to be between one and two inches in diameter and take 85 to 85 days, on average, to mature in cooler conditions with full sun. The plants themselves, such as these Farmer Phil’s transplants, need to be added about 18 inches apart in your garden. Additionally, while these vegetables are related to cabbage and broccoli, Brussels sprouts have the same tolerance to mild frosts in the winter, and a mild frost may even improve its flavor.

Long Island Brussels Sprouts are a dark green color. This variety grows to be about 1.5 inches in diameter and is ideal for late fall and winter harvests. Additionally, the plant won’t be bothered by mild frosts. When planting, add Long Island Brussels sprouts 12 to 18 inches apart. With full sun, these plants should mature in 90 days. Additionally, the plant needs moderate water and to be fertilized twice before heads appear.

This hardy, long-season vegetable has miniature cabbage-like heads in a heavy, uniform, crop.

Harvest: 90 days.
Exposure: Full sun.
Water Needs: Moderate water.
Fertilizer: Fertilize 2x before heads appear.
