Growing Vining Vegetables

A few garden vegetables need some support to grow. The most common varieties include cucumbers, tomatoes and beans. Although all of these species start as small sprouts,as they grow you will need to provide support. Typical objects to add to these plants include wire trellises, garden stakes, fences, and garden cages. However, not all plants grab onto the vines. Vining peas and pole beans naturally grab onto any fence or stake, but peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers need to be tied to a stake or wire trellis to prevent the fruits from weighing the stem and branches down.

Being a vining plant, like a cucumber, comes with certain benefits. This includes better air circulation to reduce chances of diseases, keeping fruit clean from dirt, and spotting fruits better for harvesting.
