Find Frost Dates

Frost dates for each area vary, even within the same state. Nevertheless, frost dates for each state within the continental United States fall within roughly the same time period. Typically, most areas have a frost date that starts from late March to early June and ends between late September and mid-November. This, of course, varies with where you live. In New England, frost dates may start later, such as in May or early June, and end earlier in October, while various states in the Deep South may have a longer period for which to plant. While these dates for each state and city can be found in the Old Farmer’s Almanac in detail, frost is typically defined as any freezing between 29 and 32 degrees Fahrenheit, which may or may not damage certain species of plants.
